I have a crush on women who move beyond their circumstances, overcome great odds, old stories, stereotypes, ageism, cultural restraints and simply put BS – Belief Systems.
Being an entrepreneur can be rough, dirty, heartbreaking and taxing at times. It takes big girl panties or big boy shorts. That is why successful entrepreneurs stand out. Many never make it beyond their first year! Those who do, reap the rewards in spades!
There are two women whom I have had the privilege and honor to work with over the last couple of years whose stories and journey could not be more different, and yet they are the same! Both of them are breaking stereotypes and busting ageism rules!
Meet Sue Ferreira – a feisty, spicy, determined Brit who is on fire about changing the world. After working in the medical profession for 40+ years (yes you read that right – 40+ years) she is now teaching entrepreneurs how to take their message and products/service to the world! She uses her training as a former anesthesiologist to WAKE people UP – which is hilarious since her past role it was all about putting them to SLEEP!
Today Sue works with Entrepreneurs from around the world helping them take their wisdom to wealth via video! Sue is breaking all stereotypes starting a business at sixty-eight in 2016. She is known to many as the maven of tech! Proving once again that age is not a factor, and it’s never too late! Bravo Sue, you inspire me EVERYDAY!
And amazingly at the opposite end of the spectrum (in age only) is Mary-Anne Bowcott, CEO of Westcom Plumbing and Heating. Mary-Anne is 30 years old and just as feisty, experienced, determined and spicy.
Mary-Anne is a certified plumber and gas fitter. At first glance might surprise you because she is slight in stature (I’d guess her to be about 4’11”). But don’t assume she isn’t strong! She breaks all plumber/fitter stereotypes and has been known to carry items equal to her body weight up stairs.
Mary-Anne has done work in our home, and I highly recommend her!
Mary-Anne and Sue are just two examples of the rule breakers, risk-takers and Kick A$$ women I respect and love working with! As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8th, I say “HELL YEAH” to those who stand and do what others dare not to do! THANK YOU!
Age, culture, stereotypical roles or our pasts do not define who we are and what we are capable of! Mary-Anne and Sue are proof of that.
Today women are taking on all kinds of non traditional roles and redefining what it means to be a woman… and I couldn’t be prouder!
So don’t wait ladies – rise up and live the life you dream!
